Top 3 Trending Style Tips for Petites

Petite Trending Style

The average height of a woman globally is about 5’4”. If you're petite, like us, finding clothing that fits well and flatters your figure can be tedious. Let’s get through the challenge together and embrace our body type by using these styling tips.

Use proportions: If you're petite, you may find that certain proportions can make you look even smaller. Its always best to follow the Rule of Thirds.  For example, wearing an oversized top with skinny jeans can make your frame look drowned out. Instead, try pairing an oversized top with a snug fit skirt to balance out your proportions. To simplify this, think opposites. Loose top + tight bottom OR tight top + loose bottoms for a balanced outfit.

Experiment with Layering: Layering is a great way to add visual interest to an outfit and create dimension or varying silhouettes. For our fellow petites, try layering a longer cardigan or jacket over a shorter dress or top. This can help elongate your frame and add some visual interest.

The photo features our Girlfriend Baby Cord, which falls just above the knee on the back and mid-thigh in front. This high-low feature can be worn with tight fitting pants or leggings. Although, we know its a fashion debate if leggings should be worn as pants. You can also wear this style as a dress in the summer or winter with casual sneakers or boots.

Go monochromatic: Wearing one color from head to toe can create the illusion of a longer, leaner silhouette. Next time you're getting dressed, try matching your top and bottom in the same color. This trick works especially well with darker shades, which tend to be slimming.

We do cautious the use of black. A faded black piece in your all-black ensemble, while very chic, can diminish your outfit in well lit places. Black mixed with greys or  a very dark navy will give you the sleek ensembe you're looking for.

Pro-Tip: Tailoring

We are all about finding ways to save an extra dollar or two, but this may be one expense we have to splurge on from time to time.

Finding clothing that fits well can be a challenge for petite figures but investing in tailoring can make all the difference. Whether it's having your jeans hemmed or taking in the sides of a dress, a little tailoring can go a long way in helping your clothing fit and flatter your figure.

If you have the time, learning some easy DIY tricks can save you a lifetime of costs. Otherwise, it's time to get to know the local tailors in your area!

Conclusion

By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to creating a wardrobe that's both stylish and figure-flattering. Remember, it's not about hiding your petite frame - it's about embracing it and finding ways to accentuate your best features. So go ahead and rock that monochromatic look, show off some skin with those layers and play with your proportions. You'll be turning heads in no time!
